Singing was Tom Colao’s first encounter with music, and remains a significant component of his career. He has enjoyed success as a solo singer on the concert as well as the operatic stages, and has also been active as an opera and symphonic chorus member, in particular during his time as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir and the Westminster Choir, both under the direction of Dr. Joe Miller of Westminster Choir College. During that time, Tom was privileged to perform for many leading conductors, including Joseph Flummerfelt, David Robertson, Alan Gilbert, Neemi Järvi, Ton Koopman, Christoph Eschenbach, Pierre Boulez, and Kurt Masur, among others. Since that time, he has continued to perform as a professional chorister; since 2010, he has been on the roster of The Kinnara Ensemble, based in Princeton and Atlanta, and in 2018 joined the roster of the Salt Lake City chamber chorus Brevitas. He is in demand as a freelance tenor soloist and chorister.
